What’s Happening
Microsoft
recently announced that it will no longer offer “unlimited” storage as part of licensing agreements with its EDU customers. Left unchecked, UC’s utilization will significantly outpace Microsoft’s planned storage limitations and lead to new, additional storage-related costs for the university.
What We’re Doing About It
The ICT Services Team will phase in the necessary changes to bring our utilization in-line with Microsoft’s new contracted storage limits over the course of the next two years. We are confident that our approach will avoid additional costs associated with the storage changes when they go into effect July 1, 2026.
What You Can Expect Next
ICT will use Microsoft-provided tools to track, manage, and optimize the university’s allotment of pooled storage across Exchange, OneDrive, and Teams and SharePoint sites.
-
The initial phases of the project will begin later this summer and continue through June 2026.
-
We will conduct proper testing, produce support documentation, and communicate with affected audiences prior to implementing each phase of the plan.
